The pressure for perfection is overwhelming whether that message comes from others or a voice inside your head. Seeking body perfection is a dangerous game, and can lead to harmful behaviors. You can still be struggling against your body, self-image, self
-esteem, and possibly self harm without being diagnosed with an eating disorder. My hope is to prevent eating disorders in dancers, to support those who are struggling and journey with those who have recovered. I know what it is like; it is exhausting, a moving target no one can reach.
Wherever you are, please know you don’t have to dance through this alone.
If you are struggling or know someone who is, please reach out to someone you trust.
You can start by following me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and become part of a supportive community of dancers, and others passionate about dance and recovery.
